Andrés Daniel Yauri Andoquia
Andres Yauri was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1989. He received his early musical training through the world-renowned El Sistema programme and at the Simón Bolívar Conservatoire.
Andres continued his formal undergraduate and postgraduate training in Spain (2010) and at the UK’s Royal Northern College of Music (2013-18). Here he was a student of international soloist Stefano Canuti, supported by a William Waterhouse Scholarship, the Allan & Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, a Leverhulme Arts Scholarship and the Waverley Fund. Andres has also studied at the “Scuola di Musica di Fiesole” with Andrea Zucco on the Corsi di Perfezionamento (2018).
He has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Sergio Azzolini, Henning Trog, Laurent Lefevre, George Sakakeeny, and musicians from the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet. As an orchestral player he has worked with distinguished leaders including Gustavo Dudamel, Dietrich Paredes, Nicholas Kraemer, Ulises Ascanio, Claudio Abbado, Christian Vasquez, Diego Matheuz, and Krzysztof Penderecki.
As a student, his love for chamber music led him to establish the Amici bassoon trio, with whom he won first prize in the RNCM’s Trevor Wye chamber music competition. In 2016 Andres won the Gold Medal Competition, the RNCM’s most prestigious cross-school prize for exceptional soloists – he performed at the Wigmore Hall in the following year. He also participated in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy programme in 2015, which included concerts in Dortmund, Essen and Koln.
In 2017 Andres was a full-time member of Southbank Sinfonia, during which time he covered a great deal of both symphonic and chamber orchestra repertoire as well as taking part in side-by-side performances with musicians of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. The highlight of his year with the orchestra was the opportunity to premiere Stephen Hough’s Bridgewater (Romantic Idyll) for bassoon and string orchestra.
In 2018 Andres obtained the International Artist Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music, the RNCM’s highest level bespoke performance course. A highlight of that year was his performance of the Hummel bassoon concerto with BBC Philharmonic, recorded for broadcast at their studios in Media City. Andres has since been appointed an Honorary Associated Artist of the RNCM, one of only 7 across the conservatoire’s list of recent alumni. More recently Andres has been awarded Associate Member of the RNCM – alongside the other alumni, he will play an active role in promoting and supporting the strategic initiatives of the College over the next five years.
Andres works with several orchestras in the UK, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Chineke! Orchestra, amongst others, in diverse roles including as a soloist.
